We took a little mini vacation at the end of October, and met my family in Black Mountain, North Carolina. Unfortunately, I caught a cold and was unable to enjoy the trip as much as I wanted. I found Black Mountain to be quite charming with many locally-owned shops and restaurants.
We had a wonderful lunch at Veranda Cafe and Gifts. My mother was very eager to take us there, and insisted that we arrive before the lunch crowd. I had a tasty quiche served with a delicious broccoli salad. My mouth is watering just thinking about it. I am not a big key lime pie lover, but mom says they have the best key lime pie she has ever eaten! The night before we had pizza from My Father's Pizza, and it didn't disappoint either.
We walked around Montreat for a bit on Saturday afternoon, but I just couldn't handle being outside for too long. I wasn't in the mood to snap very many pictures of the loveliness and peacefulness that is Montreat.
Hubs and I are making it a tradition to make Pioneer Woman's BBQ JalapeƱo Poppers whenever we attend family gatherings. We love those things, and I guess we want our family to love them too!
Black Mountain is only minutes away from the Blue Ridge Parkway, Asheville, the Biltmore Estate and many scenic hiking and biking trails. We visited Chimney Rock Park on Sunday, and I overcame my fear of heights for about three minutes. If we only had more time to spend at the park. There were several hiking trails and pretty places to picnic.
It was a nice vacation to get a little taste of western North Carolina. I definitely want to make plans to visit again (sans the cold)!
