Getting Hitched

In celebration of our one year wedding anniversary, I'm posting pictures of our wedding with a little added commentary.

I wish I could say that all the details of our wedding were original ideas, but unfortunately, they were not. I gathered lots of ideas from all the Martha Stewart Weddings magazines I had collected before meeting Mr. Price.

Here we go!

We mailed save the date cards to most of our family and out of town guests. I saw this "time-line" save the date in a wedding magazine, and seeing as though Mr. Price and I had to travel to Brazil just to meet each other, I thought it was appropriate.

One of my first goals was to find a dress. The dress I chose was nothing like what I had envisioned. I had such a hard time choosing a dress; I really wanted two! I loved the mermaid style, but in the end chose something that I thought was classic and timeless, an A-lined alencon lace dress. I happened to find the dress for half the original price by purchasing it from a wedding consignment website. That's right, my dress was gently worn by another bride whom I've never met!

I really wanted our wedding ceremony to be unique and spiritual. To me wedding ceremonies are just too short for the lifelong covenant you are entering. We asked a close friend and a family member to read scripture from Ephesians 5 and Philippians 2. A good friend of Mr. Price's sang Yearn by Shane and Shane. The string quartet played Surely the Presence. We also served communion and had the congregation take part in this sacrament with us.

Our wedding ceremony began at noon, and we had a seated lunch reception. I created a seating chart and used luggage tags as place cards. To add a personal touch, each table was named after a city that Mr. Price and I have traveled to. We printed the table tent cards with a description of when and why we visited each city.

My wedding cake came straight from the pages Martha Stewart Weddings. I ripped out the magazine page and took it to my cake baker. I found another baker two hours away from my hometown that created an airplane for the top of the grooms cake. It was quite fitting since Mr. Price proposed to me in an airplane that he was flying!

As favors, we brought back one of Mr. Price's family traditions. His great-grandfather owned a grocery store, and sold his own BBQ sauce. Then Mr. Price's grandparents also bottled and sold the sauce until 2006. Mr. Price hopes to bring it back one day as well. I thought it would be another great personal touch to give it to our wedding guests.

Guests waved yellow ribbon wands as we exited the reception and hopped into an old Model A car. And if you haven't figured out by now, my wedding color was yellow, which I am happy to see more brides using.

Then it was honeymoon time. And that, my friends, was fabulous! Come back tomorrow to see pictures of paradise!
