Scenes from the Weekend

This weekend we drove to Asheville and saw Third Day in concert. They put on a good show, played a few songs from their new record Move (which I love), and even played a little tribute to Drivin' n' Cryin' at the very end of the show.

We made it home Saturday a few hours before the first snowflakes of the Winter season started falling. This year's first snow was nothing like the first snow of last year, when it decided to dump 16 inches just after we started traveling. That's another story for another time.

We received about an inch of snow on Saturday evening from what meteorologists call a "clipper system." By Sunday afternoon most of the snow had melted.

Since it was feeling a lot like Christmas, we decided to go pick out our Christmas tree on Saturday. We purchased our tree from Sweet Providence Farms of Floyd, Virginia. They bring their trees to Roanoke and set up shop near a local mall. A few guys helped us prepare our tree to take home, and carried it to our car where Mr. Price strapped it to the top tightly.

And what's a cold, snowy day inside without some good comfort food. It was the perfect time for a warm bowl of chili. We made ours with buffalo meat instead of ground beef! Pretty tasty!

Weekend plans and a few links

Hello Friends! What are your weekend plans? We're going to a concert and then hurrying back home Saturday morning, because snow is predicted for later that evening. I'm getting excited! I hope you'll check out some of my favorite links below!

I love these Nativity cards by Rifle Paper Co.

An interesting 4th Amendment project.

Exactly what I dream of- a house full of art!

I can't wait to read this book. The author makes me laugh out loud. It's sure to be a best-seller!

Definitely adding this to both my wish list and to-do list.

Some true and inspirational words.

The perfect homemade gift. Here's another one.

Thanksgiving 2010

Last week, Mr. Price and I were table hosts at the Rescue Mission's Thanksgiving Feast. We helped serve a delicious meal to 20 people. After the feast we joined Dave and Cheryl, friends from church and Mr. Price's fellow bandmates, for their family Thanksgiving. Of course we had already eaten, but we enjoyed the fellowship. They even gathered around to play some music in the middle of their living room. Good Stuff. I don't have pictures, unfortunately.

Even though we had a delicious meal at the Mission, I wanted to make a few of my favorite Thanksgiving dishes. On Saturday we made cornbread dressing with sausage and apples, green bean casserole and a baked ham (because we couldn't find a turkey breast!). Thanksgiving just isn't the same without the leftovers. Plus I wanted to bring out my china!

Hike #2

We took a short hike a few weeks ago to Roaring Run in Botetourt County. Roaring Run is a recreational area with picnic sites, hiking trails and a creek for trout fishing. The rec area is free to use. It took us about an hour to reach the park from Roanoke, but less than thirty minutes to hike to the main attraction - the waterfall. The trail is very easy with just a few steep steps to climb.

Mini Vacay

We took a little mini vacation at the end of October, and met my family in Black Mountain, North Carolina. Unfortunately, I caught a cold and was unable to enjoy the trip as much as I wanted. I found Black Mountain to be quite charming with many locally-owned shops and restaurants.

We had a wonderful lunch at Veranda Cafe and Gifts. My mother was very eager to take us there, and insisted that we arrive before the lunch crowd. I had a tasty quiche served with a delicious broccoli salad. My mouth is watering just thinking about it. I am not a big key lime pie lover, but mom says they have the best key lime pie she has ever eaten! The night before we had pizza from My Father's Pizza, and it didn't disappoint either.

We walked around Montreat for a bit on Saturday afternoon, but I just couldn't handle being outside for too long. I wasn't in the mood to snap very many pictures of the loveliness and peacefulness that is Montreat.

Hubs and I are making it a tradition to make Pioneer Woman's BBQ JalapeƱo Poppers whenever we attend family gatherings. We love those things, and I guess we want our family to love them too!

Black Mountain is only minutes away from the Blue Ridge Parkway, Asheville, the Biltmore Estate and many scenic hiking and biking trails. We visited
Chimney Rock Park on Sunday, and I overcame my fear of heights for about three minutes. If we only had more time to spend at the park. There were several hiking trails and pretty places to picnic.

It was a nice vacation to get a little taste of western North Carolina. I definitely want to make plans to visit again (sans the cold)!

Weddings 2010

During our September vacation I attended two weddings and Mr. Price one. These weddings made numbers three, four and five of this year! I am finally getting around to posting some pictures from these wonderful events. 2010 is coming to an end, but not without two more weddings to attend. Stay tuned for weddings six and seven!
